Card tricks are the simplest form of magic and, for me, the card trick began my passion for the subject of magic.

The first card trick I remember being taught is completely self-working. This is how the card trick goes:

Take the four kings, four queens, four jacks and four aces from the pack. You can discard the rest of the pack as they are not needed for this card trick.

You can start this card trick with a simple story: "Four kings decide to have a party and each king is asked to go to a separate room…"
Deal the four kings out separately and face-up: card 1, then card 2 next to it, then card 3 below card 1 and finally card 4 below card 2.

The card trick story continues: "The queens are told to meet their husbands…"
Now place the queens face-up onto their respective king with the same suit.

"The son's find their mother and father…"
Now place the jacks face-up onto their respective queens with the same suit.

"The girlfriends are also invited…"
Finally, place the aces face-up onto their respective jacks with the same suit.

"They all meet up in the main hall…" so continues the card trick story.
Now pick up each pile and place one pile on top of the next pile, making sure you don't lose the order they were dealt (i.e. they should now be ordered A-J-Q-K-A-J-Q-K, etc.)
Turn the pile of cards face down so the order would now be K-Q-J-A-K-Q-J-A, etc.

"They mingle, have a great time, dancing, having a party…"
Ask a spectator to cut the pack only once, making sure that the bottom half of the pack is put on top of the other half. Ask other spectators if they would also like to cut the pack.

Continuing the card trick story: "Everyone is blind folded and asked to find a room…"
Now deal the cards face-down, in the same formation as before: card 1, then card 2 next to it, then card 3 below card 1 and finally card 4 below card 2.

Reveal each pile of cards… four kings in one room, four queens in another, four jacks in the third and four aces in the fourth.
